Are any of you lucky enough to have Diary of a Foodie play on your local PBS station? We discovered this show about a year ago and eagerly await its broadcast each Saturday evening. Gourmet’s Diary of a Foodie is for the true food lovers. The cinematography is beautiful and the narration speaks to you as if you really are an intelligent human being, rather than a kindergartner. Here’s what they say about their show, “Looking at the world food-first, Gourmet’s Diary of a Foodie is a sophisticated, high-end public television series that introduces viewers to a feast of cutting-edge food trends, exotic ingredients, and in-the-know food players on an international level.” Each episode makes me swoon. Recently they’ve made their shows viewable on their website and you can also download them and listen to them on your iTunes. I want to share this one with you:

Living off the Land

Among the stories in it, the main story is about Elliot Coleman and his wife Barbara Damrosh who farm at Four Season Farm in Harborside, Maine. He’s figured out how to use greenhouses to extend his growing seasons a little bit earlier and later each year until finally he was able to eliminate winter all together in his farming. His garden is gorgeous and their kitchen is to die for. When we do get our dream farmhouse, you will all be invited for homegrown BLT’s in our kitchen just like in Barbara.

    Nice blog! I found my way here from Compostings blog. Thanks for the post about the Foodies show, I’ll download it to my iPod to watch Eliot Coleman and Barbara Damrosch. Two years ago I was lucky to be able to visit their farm in Harborside and meet Eliot. It was a great visit and he inspired me to put up my own hoop house this summer.

    I love your blog . . . and I love Eliot Coleman’s new book so much I made my own hoop house last fall. The amazing thing is that even with all our snow it’s still standing, and the little plants are growing inside . . .
